***GIVEAWAY!!***
Andrea inspired me with her recent goodies, so I've been collecting items for a giveaway of my own. It was going to be a celebratory "I made the SPS DT!" or "My craft show was a hit!" giveaway, but since neither of those really turned out that way, it's going to be an "I'm having a weekend long scrap retreat and am going to get lots and lots of layouts done!" giveaway.
So here's how it works... I want you to post your favorite holiday tradition (Christmas or other) and in turn I will pick one lucky commenter to win the scrappy goods! I will pick the name on Sunday night, November 11th - at the end of my great scrapbook getaway.
So... get posting already!!

Okay, I'm posting already. Lets see, favorite Christmas tradition? Advent. Been a big deal in my family since I was little to do devotions and countdowns to Christmas to PREPARE for the big event. I love it!
My favorite holiday tradition is the cookie exchange with friends. We make it a very festive night. The cookie exchange is just the excuse to get together.

Hello Elizabeth!
Our holiday tradition - it's a funny one, but whenever the big tree comes into the house at the holidays, there's always a tight squeeze through the doorways. We always joke about how we need to put Christmas trees on a diet so it can get through the doorway next time....silly but we all laugh at our corny little 'tradition'....that we made up and continue to bring up year after year!
My favourite Christmas tradition is reading with my kids on Christmas eve, and they each get to open one gift from each other.. generally, just enjoying time with my family! :)
My favorite tradition is baking cookies to share with my neighbors and co-workers. Who doesn't love a nicely iced sugar cookie? Thanks for sharing :)
Making a gingerbread house with my kids.
My favorite tradtion is decorating my house withlights. We live in the country and you can see our house from the highway and I love decorating so you notice it driving by! We are actually gonna start today! Thanks for the chance. Don't worry about your craft show some are good and others not so!
My very favorite Christmas tradition was getting out the Mommy and Daddy cars (two old-fashioned wooden car ornaments that my parents were given when they got married) and putting them on the tree so the Daddy car was chasing the Mommy car. =)
You have a great blog, I'll be back often. Our favorite tradition is going to cut down the Christmas tree together. Everyone is married/taken and out on their own but we all go together to get our trees.

My favorite xmas tradition?...midnight mass and then going to my grandma & grandpa's for homemade cinnamon rolls and milk/coffee... It's like a family reunion!
My grandma's Italian family has made a fried pastry called Scaletti for many generations. I learned from my grandma, as I helped make them every year. Grandma is gone now, but my mom, my daughter, and 5 year old granddaughter & I will make them together again this year, as this tradition will continue forever.
I know it sounds corny, but I love to sit in the dark with just the christmas tree lights on and listen to christmas music (old fashioned that is lol). It's so cozy and warm and brings back alot of memories as a kid. bluemoonbynite@yahoo.com
We started a tradition just this year and I love it! Whenever anyone sends a card I put them in a basket. Every night at dinner, we pick a card out of the basket and pray for that person when we say the blessing for our dinner. Most are Christmas cards. It's a great tradition!
One of our tradition is before dinner is everyone has to tell us what they are thankful for! Thanks for a chance.

Several years ago I made Christmas stockings for everyone in the family, kids, inlaws, gkids, & ggkids and put them on the inside of the front door with superstrength magnets - its fun filling them with stocking stuffers, gift cards, candy, oranges - everyone enjoys them & that's the first thing they check out. It's fun to make your own traditions!

My favorite holiday tradition is to listen to Christmas music as I'm pulling at the decorations and getting the tree put up.
I watch the moon come up on the winter solstice knowing that each night will get shorter and each day longer from then on until its warm again. I may be frozen on the deck but its worth it.
My favorite tradition is to get a family photo taken in front of our Christmas tree (for Christmas cards). The family includes our persian cat, who doesn't like photos!!! LOL!! Every year I have a ton of photos with various stages of my cat and/or daughter jumping off of our laps!!
Thanks!

I have three absolute favorites. Immediately after Thanksgiving all the Christmas decorations go up. I love the white lights! We make Russian Peppernut Cookies. My husbands family has made them for generations; it's a great tradition. On Christmas Eve, we have a dinner of summer sausage, ham & cheeses. After dinner we read Luke 2 and pray. Christmas Eve everyone opens one stocking stuffer. I LOVE Christmas, but you don't have to include me in your giveaway 'cause you know how well I do with crafting :-)
TOO FUN, LIZ!!! i'm probably posting too late, but here goes anyway:
favorite christmas traditions: reading the Christmas story before opening presents; opening one present on christmas eve; a hershey kiss hunt on christmas afternoon; my friend and i go shopping together and our husbands go shopping together (usually on a sunday afternoon/evening)
favorite birthday tradition: eating from the "you're special today" red plate at my in-law's house
our first date anniversary: we go to a sonics basketball game (our first date) as close to the DAY of our 1st date as possible... to "relive" the best date of our lives! :)
valentine's day: NO flowers, NO dinner out, NO gifts (we both expect to be treated like that all year round so why "enjoy" it on the same day as everyone else?!)
miss ya! - tam
First I just wanted to say BUMMER about the craft show dilema. Been there dine that. Craft shows are hard to judge some times...but at least you made some $$.(And the car thing is a bummer too! Glad no one was injured!)
As for the Christmas tradition...On Christmas Eve the kids get to open one present. It's always new pj's. They usually all match so that pictures look great in the morning. When they were really little and I lived real close to my sister, we would get matching pj's for all the kids and open them on Christmas Eve. My fav picture is of all the kids including my brothers...all 12 kids in "Elmo" pj's! I just LOVE it!
The other ODD tradition we do is this...I have the kids pick out a favorite wrapping paper. Then each year all of THEIR gifts are wrapped in that paper. They are older now but before they always thought it was so cool that Santa wrapped their presents in their fav paper. My mom used to do that when I was little and it was always fun.
Woooow - how do you pick just one favorite christmas tradition? If I had to pick one, it would be flying back east to visit my family for an old fashioned christmas - where all the aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. get together and have a huge roast & enough food to feed a small country. Followed by "watching football" (i.e. sleeping & digesting). Followed by dinner/present opening & then board game playing!
my favorite christmas tradition is christmas eve worship... it's such a beautiful reminder of the good news and the precious gift that was born on that glorious day. :)
It's a simple one...my entire family comes to my parent's house and my mom makes the most delicious turkey dinner with the family recipe stuffing. It's the only time we're ever all together and I look forward to the yummy dinner all year!
did you think you'd get this many responses?!?!! :)
my favorite tradition: arriving for christmas eve dinner and selecting a numbered bag (always filled with apples and/or oranges, peppermints, nuts and small coins. later in the evening my uncle draws a number and the person with that number on their bag gets to go up and has a chance to keep the bag, exchange it for a "secret" gift (this could be anything from a huge bag of oranges to a giant stuffed puppy-which is one that i got as a kid), or sell it to him for a specified dollar amount. it's always fun finding out what each person gives up to keep the bag (because some of the bags have money or lottery tickets in them, so it's always hard to decide what to pick). then he would hand out a $2 bill to all the grandkids.
Wow, I might not stand a chance, but I'll enter anyway... My favorite Christmas tradition is taking turns to open our presents. We all divy the gifts up and then go around a circle, each opening one present at a time and oohing and aahing at what each person got. It helped us remember what we got from whom, so we could write thank you's and it helped us savor the excitement. It's a tradition we've passed on to our kiddos, too.
On Christmas Eve we always go over to my parent's house for dinner. After dinner, Mom reads the Christmas Story from Luke, and we sing Happy Birthday to Baby Jesus (we have a big muffin instead of a whole cake...). Then Mom has a small stocking-stuffer type gift for each of us to open. I don't remember when we started doing this, but I was probably still in school then....
