Hybrid Birthday Card - MIM Challenge

The MIM wild card challenge this week was to create a hybrid card. To that end, I printed out the frame and sentiment onto a transparency, thinking I could use it on a card somehow. The frame is a freebie I found somewhere and I think it's beautiful! I colored the backside of it with my Copic markers to give it just a little color.

There's a micro challenge going on right now over at Caardvarks, too. Their challenge is to make a card WITHOUT using patterned paper. Back in the day I'd say "No problem!" and stamp something... but lately I've been much more of a patterned paper user, so this proved a little more challenging! I discovered a sheet of cardstock I bought a while back - brown on one side, teal on the other. And that gave me an idea...

I cut a frame out of the front of the card, then adhered the transparency using some Iron Orchid Designs from an old Sweet Pea Scraps kit. This particular blue tape I hadn't found a good use for yet, but it turns out that it makes a pretty sweet border! I'm pretty happy with the card and might just make a second out of the remaining half sheet of cardstock.

My Sunshine

Here's another hybrid layout about my sweet Ellie-pie! I love this picture of her. For some reason the look in her eyes gets me every time. *sigh* Must be a mom thing.

For this one I added the frame and empty journaling block (both freebie downloads) to the photo before printing. Then I went back and added the journaling in my own handwriting. The journaling is just the words to the song You Are My Sunshine. I love that it worked out just perfectly for the words I LOVE YOU to go in the big box!


The papers came from my Sweet Pea Scraps December kit (can you tell I'm a couple months behind in my playing??). The patterned paper, stamps, and jewels are Iron Orchid Designs. And this layout is for challenges on both the SPS and IOD blogs, too!



The butterflies and flowers were stamped on the patterned paper, then cut out and adhered to the layout. The jewels were cut apart, too, and the circles were stretched out to make swirls around the butterflies. There's a lot of stamping on this page, and I have to say that I am LOVING my new Build-A-Frame stamp set. I got it because I liked the corners and the butterfly, but I like how seamlessly you can make a whole frame, too! Love it...

All That Glitter is Gold...

... And that's our theme for this week's challenge! GLITTER! I want to see the layouts you make with that shimmery, sparkly stuff! Be creative... stretch yourself... but use glitter!


Here's a layout to get you started - one I made for a couple other challenges as well! I used a sketch from the Iron Orchid Designs blog (as well as a ton of their product - papers, stamps, tape, jewels) and my December kit from Sweet Pea Scraps. The SPS challenge for last week was to make a layout using the word "love" and this layout is all about Ellie's love for her kitty boots! This is also my first hybrid layout... can you see the frames around the photos? I'll play a little more with photo editing, but I'm having fun so far! Oh - and as for the glitter on this layout... all of the flowers are glittered rub ons! I used my uber-cool Martha glitter, though you can't see how sparkly it is in this picture.

Okay... now go spread a little sparkle in the world!
